Today we go from Salzburg to Prague. While we did eventually get there, the day didn’t quite go as planned. As has been with every train we have taken in Austria, our first train of the day was 20 minutes late. Even this delay should have still allowed for us to make our connecting train, but over the course of our 2.5 hour journey from Salzburg back to Vienna, our delay got longer and longer such that we watched our train leave for Prague without us on the platform next to ours as we disembarked. So we went to the ticket office and they gave us new tickets (for free since we missed our train due to delay) and waited for two hours for the next one. As if that weren’t enough of a hiccup to the day’s plan, they then changed the platform our new train was coming to at the last second, so we had to run with all our gear to a new platform, and only just made it on our second train. At least from here, the 4 hour journey from Vienna to Prague was smooth. We arrived in Vienna shortly after 9pm and checked into our hostel. The room we have here is really nice. It’s a 5 person room, where all our others have slept at least 6, and there’s no bunk beds, just 5 twins. The lockers are large and are tucked under the bunks, and we even have a kitchenette in an adjoining room. So despite the slight derailment (if you will) of our travel plans, at least we have a comfy room to sleep in.
