October 11th – Lucerne Day 2

We had a late start today since we had no plans, and it was nice to be able to sleep in a bit. We spent the rest of the morning that there was doing some shopping in the downtown area. It’s definitely easy to find nice things to want to bring home here ๐Ÿ˜…. Then we walked across the Chapel Bridge, which is in every promotional picture of Lucerne, and it’s easy to understand why.

Next, we went to the clock tower (and two other towers that did not house clocks). We spent an hour or so going up and down and up and down the stairs of the various towers, but it was pretty cool to see the inside of the (still working, if a little early) clock tower, and of course they provided yet another beautiful view of the city.

It was pretty warm today, and we had done a lot of stairs, but very conveniently, there is a little hobby farm behind the clock tower that sells homemade gelato! So we said hello to the chickens, goats, and pigs while cooling off with a tasty treat.

We did a little wander through the garden behind the towers, because allegedly there are sometimes hedgehogs there. Alas we didn’t see any but it was hot and also day time, not prime hedgehog viewing conditions.

We made our way back into town, and there is a little fair right by the train station that’s only here for a couple weeks, so we went on the swing ride. It actually went pretty fast and went for a good long time, so I was a little wobbly when it was over.

Our last activity before dinner was a little paddle boat ride. We took the boat out for a quick paddle on Lake Lucerne and then went to our dinner restaurant. This evening we had cheese fondue for dinner. Our roommate had suggested a restaurant to us, and it was right on the water. The food was delicious, but I mean, can you go wrong with cheese, bread, and potatoes?

To finish off the day, we went for a ride on the ferris wheel that is down on the peir. Our stop in Lucerne was short, but very sweet.

  1. Lucerne butter? Hmmm. We do have a fondue set… I wonder if the Swisswheel was on its pier before Santa Monica got its ferris wheel.
