Barcelona Day 3 (September 28th, 2022)

Started the day with a trip to the botanical gardens. There were mostly trees and shrubs at the moment but they had it divided up into sections based on where they came from (chile, Australia, California, etc.). It was quite quiet in the park, not too many other visitors so it made for a very peaceful start to the day. Saw some more interesting birds, including a few more of those green parrots I saw yesterday. There is also something here that sounds like an owl but it is very much during the day time. I’m starting to think that some of the pigeon like birds here make that noise but maybe not.

After leaving the park I noticed a pretty interesting building nearby so I abandoned my previous afternoon plans in favour of seeing what it was all about. It ended up being the National Museum of Catalunyan Art so I thought I’d have a wander through. Before I did I got a bite to eat and my Spanish finally failed me as I tried to order and orange juice and ended up with and orange Fanta (pretty close, and honestly I’m pretty confidant in my ability to say orange juice so I feel like maybe it wasn’t on me).

Inside the museum was a mixture of medieval, Gothic, and modern art. My favourite part was the modern art, specifically all the furniture they had on display!

After the museum, I headed back to the hostel and waited around for the hostel dinner I had signed up for. Every night the put on a “family dinner” which is 3 courses and a drink but it doesnt start until 9pm. Tonight’s dinner was zucchini soup, which I was unsure about at first but very much enjoyed, roasted chicken with potatoes and salad, and some kind of Carrot cake like dessert with ice cream. The food was super tasty and for my drink I had a sangria of course (which they had on tap if you don’t mind). I was sitting at a table with 2 other canadians (we really are everywhere) and a girl from australia whonwere all very pleasant dinner companions. Kind of a make it up as you go along kind of day today, but turned out quite well!

  1. Love the make-it -up days, too. Missed out on Paris but have found your blog again and am enjoying Spain. Love from Babba
