Amsterdam Day 2 (September 15th, 2022)

Started the day off at the Van Gogh museum today. It was a really cool museum with his works organized in chronological order such that they could show the progression of his work but also the story of his life. The audio guide for this one was really good and overall it was a very enjoyable museum.

Next on the list was the Albert Cuypmarkt which is a street market that is open 6 days a week. They had loads of different things there including produce, fresh fish, cheese, clothing, bags, shoes, pretty much anything you can think of. I even saw a trombone group of 9 or 10 getting set up but I never heard them start to play. After the market I headed back to the museum Square to go to the Rijksmuseum. It is huge and has so much interesting stuff going on but I was already pretty beat from all the walking so I did maybe half of it. What I did see was amazing and I will have to go back on the next trip.

All throughout the day today I was walking over the canals and it was such a lovely day that the whole area looked like all the postcards you see.

When I got back to the hostel, a girl named Brooke from Australia asked me if I would like to join her and her friend Anita (who is from Slovenia) for an evening cruise down the canal (twist my rubber arm). Our boat was little and completely open one so we could see all the buildings and down the canals. Our skipper gave us the low down on the area and we were even served some complementary beer and wine. It did start to rain about half way through so we huddled under our umbrellas and hid under the bridges but it was still good fun. After that we got some food from a Japanese place near our hostel and turned in for the night. Quite a busy day today but I think I’ll have a bit of a rest tomorrow.
