Amsterdam Day 4 (Sept 17th 2022)

Today’s main activity was probably one of the more unique items on the agenda, alpaca high tea. Took me a second to get to it (it was out in the middle of nowhere in the Dutch countryside) but once I was there it was exactly what it sounds like. Basically for the first hour, we drank our tea of choice and about 11 alpacas wandered through the tables looking for some goodies. We had at each table a little bucket of hay and a little jar full of pellets and they would come right up to you and eat out of your hand.

After the initial “greet and feed” as they called it, all the alpacas settled down to digest while we had out food. They were, to my surprise not at all interested in what we were eating which was little finger sandwiches, some veggies and some desserts.

We got a little Polaroid picture of us with the alpacas and a post card of one, as well as some fun facts about these alpacas specifically and alpacas in generally (apparently they can time it so that they are sure to give birth on a sunny day because their tongues don’t come out of their mouthes so they need the sun to dry the newborns). The alpacas were quite social and very keen to much on the snacks they knew we had for them. There was a bit of spitting but not at us, just at each other if someone got in someone else’s way.

Later on in the evening Brooke and I went to a tapas style restaurant and had some yummy meats and cheeses as well as some mains and some drinks which were all quite good. One more day in amsterdam and then off to the next destination!

  1. That’s sounds like so much fun to go to tea with the alpacas. Such refined alpacas! Such decorum! Josh would be proud 😁
