Amsterdam Day 5 (Sept 18th, 2022)

Started the day off with breakfast with Anita and Brooke who were both leaving for home today. We wandered about for quite awhile in the rain trying to find somewhere that wasn’t full to eat and settled on a pancake place. It wasn’t a traditional ducth pancake place but they did offer quite a variety of sweet and savory pancakes, even pancake eggs benny. After breakfast we went up the A’DAM lookout tower which is a building that houses offices and hotel rooms on the lower floors, and an observation deck and bar on the upper floors. It also has a big swing outside on the top floor but we settled for just looking out at the city.

I said goodbye to the girls as they made their way to the airport and I spent my afternoon in museums. The first museum was called the Moco museum and it was full of street art, NFTs, and immersive light exhibits.

The next museum I went to since I had time was a diamond museum. Apparently a lot of diamonds used to be cut in amsterdam, and there was lots of info about how diamonds form, how they’re mined, cut and polished and what they are used for. There was even a little steal the diamond game you could play where you try and get past a series of laser beams before time runs out. In addition they had a variety of famous diamonds and diamond replicas on display that you could look at.

The last museum of the day was the Anne Frnak house. It was very well laid out and used the rooms of the house along with quotes from Anne’s diary and details provided later by her father Otto to tell the story of the Frank family and paint a picture of what it was like to be Jewish during the Holocaust. It was pretty cold and rainy today, but I had lots to do inside for my last day in Amsterdam! Tomorrow, to Paris!
